Zoogo Inc. ("Zoogo," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform, including our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and applicable provincial privacy legislation. Where users are located in the European Economic Area, we also comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: Name, email address, password, display name, phone number (optional), profile photo
  • Pet Profile Information: Pet name, species, breed, age, weight, sex, photos, health records, vaccination information, microchip number, veterinarian details, insurance information
  • Address Information: Home address (optional, for shipping and location-based features)
  • Emergency Contacts: Names and phone numbers of emergency contacts you provide
  • Travel Documents: Vaccination certificates, health certificates, travel permits, and related documentation you upload
  • Community Content: Photos, videos, captions, comments, and messages you post
  • Payment Information: Billing address and shipping address (payment card details are processed directly by Stripe and never stored on our servers)
  • QR Scan Contact Information: Name, phone number, email, and message provided by people who scan your pet's QR tag

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, browser type
  • Usage Data: Pages viewed, features used, time spent, interaction patterns
  • Location Data: GPS coordinates (only when you explicitly enable location services for features like missing pet alerts or QR scans)
  • Log Data: IP address, access times, error logs

2.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Social Login Providers: If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and profile picture as authorized by you
  • Payment Processor: Stripe provides us with transaction confirmation and order status (not card numbers)

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • Provide the Service: Create and manage accounts, pet profiles, community features, QR tags, and care schedules
  • Safety Features: Send missing pet alerts to nearby users, process QR scan notifications, and contact owners when pets are found
  • Communications: Send account notifications, care reminders, alert notifications, and service updates
  • Process Purchases: Fulfill QR tag orders, process payments, and handle shipping
  • Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, fix bugs, and develop new features
  • Safety & Security: Detect fraud, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service
  • Legal Compliance: Meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Your Consent

  • QR Tag Scans: When someone scans your pet's tag, they see only the information you have chosen to share in your privacy settings
  • Shared Pet Access: Users you invite can see the pet profile information you authorize
  • Community Posts: Content you post is visible to other authenticated users
  • Missing Pet Alerts: Your contact info and pet details are shared with users in the alert radius

4.2 Service Providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who assist in operating the Service:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS): Cloud hosting, data storage, and computing (data stored in Canada/US regions)
  • Stripe: Payment processing for tag purchases
  • Twilio: SMS and WhatsApp notifications for QR scans and alerts
  • AWS SES: Email delivery for alerts and notifications

All service providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Zoogo, our users, or the public.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure located in Canada (ca-central-1) and the United States (us-east-1). We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256)
  • Access controls and authentication via Supabase Auth
  • Regular security assessments and monitoring
  • Secure payment processing via Stripe (PCI DSS compliant)
  • Automatic data backups with point-in-time recovery

While we implement strong security measures, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

6. Your Privacy Controls

Zoogo provides you with control over your information:

6.1 QR Tag Privacy Settings

You control exactly which pet profile fields are visible when your QR tag is scanned. You can enable or disable sharing of: pet photo, pet name, breed, owner name, contact phone, contact email, medical information, and "if found" messages.

6.2 Profile Visibility

Your pet profiles are visible to authenticated Zoogo users by default. Health documents, travel documents, and veterinary information are private by default and only shared with users you explicitly grant access to.

6.3 Location Data

Location access is always opt-in. We request location only for specific features (missing pet alerts, QR scan location sharing, nearby missing pets). You can revoke location access at any time through your device settings.

6.4 Communications

You can manage notification preferences in your account settings. Transactional emails (account security, order confirmations) cannot be opted out of while your account is active. Marketing communications require your explicit consent and can be unsubscribed at any time.

7. Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable privacy laws, you have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data
  • Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for specific processing activities
  • Complaint: Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

7.1 Additional Rights for EEA Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to restrict processing, object to processing, and not be subject to automated decision-making. Our legal bases for processing are: contract performance, legitimate interest, consent, and legal obligation.

8. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specific retention periods:

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Pet profiles: Retained until deleted by you; QR tags become inactive upon profile deletion
  • Community posts: Retained until deleted by you or removed for Terms violation
  • QR scan records: Retained for 2 years for safety purposes
  • Missing pet alerts: Active alerts retained until resolved; historical alerts retained for 1 year
  • Purchase records: Retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance
  • Usage logs: Retained for 90 days

Upon account deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, legal claims).

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will delete that information promptly. 10. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential Cookies: Authentication, security, and session management (required for the Service to function)
  • Functional Cookies: Remembering preferences and settings
  • Analytics Cookies: Understanding how the Service is used to improve it (anonymized)

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We do not sell data to advertisers or participate in ad networks. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.

11. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., veterinary clinics, pet stores, airline pet policies). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing personal information.

12. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in Canada and the United States where our infrastructure is hosted. Both jurisdictions provide adequate data protection. For transfers to the US, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and AWS's compliance certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001).

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email and/or a prominent notice on the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
