Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Zoogo is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards. We believe every pet parent deserves equal access to tools that keep their pets safe and connected.

Standards We Follow

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines are organized around four principles:

  • Perceivable: Information and interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
  • Operable: Interface components and navigation must be operable by all users
  • Understandable: Information and operation of the interface must be understandable
  • Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of assistive technologies

What We've Done

We have taken the following measures to ensure accessibility:

  • Semantic HTML structure throughout the website and web app
  • ARIA labels on interactive elements and navigation landmarks
  • Sufficient colour contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for text)
  • Keyboard navigation support for all interactive features
  • Focus indicators visible on all focusable elements
  • Alt text for meaningful images and decorative images marked appropriately
  • Form labels and error messages associated with form fields
  • Responsive design that works across screen sizes and zoom levels up to 200%
  • No content that flashes more than three times per second
  • Skip navigation links for keyboard users
  • Consistent navigation patterns across pages

Mobile Applications

Our iOS and Android apps are designed with native accessibility features in mind:

  • VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android) compatibility
  • Dynamic type support for user-preferred text sizes
  • Accessible labels on all interactive elements
  • Support for reduced motion preferences
  • High contrast mode support
  • Touch targets meeting minimum size requirements (44x44 points)

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may have limitations:

  • User-uploaded media: Photos and videos uploaded by community members may not always include alternative text descriptions
  • QR code scanning: The camera-based QR scanning feature requires visual interaction; we provide manual code entry as an alternative
  • Map features: Interactive maps in the missing pet alerts section may have limited screen reader support; text-based location information is always provided alongside
  • Third-party content: Embedded content from payment processors or social login providers follows their own accessibility standards

We are actively working to address these limitations and welcome feedback on how to improve.

Assistive Technologies Tested

We test our platform with the following assistive technologies:

  • VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
  • TalkBack on Android
  • NVDA on Windows
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200%
  • High contrast mode (Windows) and Increase Contrast (macOS)

Enforcement & Compliance

This statement was prepared based on a self-assessment. We are committed to meeting the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and federal accessibility standards under the Accessible Canada Act. Full WCAG 2.1 AA validation requires expert accessibility review and testing with assistive technologies, which we conduct periodically.
